The new opening for Hawaii Five-O 2010. For more movie news, trailers, and interviews go to www.collider.com – Synopsis A contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands sun-drenched beaches. Detective Steve McGarrett (Alex OLoughlin), a decorated Naval officer turned cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his fathers murder and stays after Hawaiis governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket immunity to hunt down the biggest game in town. Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny Danno Williams (Scott Caan), a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline but is committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim), an ex-Honolulu Police Detective wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol, who is also a former protégé of McGarretts father. Chins cousin, Kono (Grace Park), is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the departments elite. McGarrett vows to bring closure to his fathers case while the states brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

Judging by the post date this version MAY be just from the network promo work copy. According to producers at comic con ( 2 months after this posting) they hired the original musicians and re recorded it. Theres a video on youtube of the session

I agree. A pale imitation of the original. Seems to be designed for a low attention span audience.
Lacks dynamism. Even the “computerised” opening sequence does not have the necessary verve.
Surely the true spirit of the old series is not beyond the ability of producers to recapture?
Thanks for comment – interesting reading!

Way to compress a classic tv theme song so not to cut into advertising revenues…Can we please have shows with full a full introduction?!? The networks are not fooling anyone…

@zardcat1111 It doesn’t do much for me, either, and I like the actors who are starring in the new one! Bring back the original. Song, I mean.

Grace Park is in it. I’ll watch that!

The new commercials are out and I’m glad they decided to stick with the original soundtrack. If it aint broke why fix it! The original track brings credibility to the new series. Here’s hoping it last’s as long as the original.

@einsteinslies
Yea, right. That is why EVERYBODY knows this theme.

@zardcat1111
I hope you are right.
This was not the theme they showed at Comic-con this year.
Don’t mess with the fans CBS.

They’re already bringing back the old theme song, which was re-recorded last June, with a few of the original musicians, too.

Atrocious. Atrocious. Absolutely useless. Bland, anodyne, compromised, soulless, mechanical and a travesty of the matchless original. Anyway, thanks for posting this so I could vent like that.

@45guitar This isn’t the new version, they changed it back to the original. Read the previous comments, and type in “rebooting hawaii five-0″ to listen to the real intro theme music.

This theme….just not cutting it for me. Biggest mistake is to re-record the theme and then use flashback photography to capture elements of the old show. I mean, if you’re going to flash back to the original (visually) all that will do is remind you (auditorially) that you’re hearing a different theme song. I’d have kept the original theme or else an entirely new song. The new version just doesn’t have the punch of the old one.

@zardcat1111 I like that type of opening. NCIS does it too
Comment by SG1Mitchell — August 13, 2010 @ 7:59 pm
@zardcat1111 Atleast that’s how if was in the first four seasons. After the 8 seasons after that, the theme played and the show started. A boring way to start off a show in my opinion…
Comment by zardcat1111 — August 13, 2010 @ 8:40 pm
@SG1Mitchell Well, the original had a cliffhanger beginning. Like, “Law and Order”. Some guy would kill a girl, take here jewelry and run out of the house, and then there would be a close up of the dead girl’s body with suspensful background music and then BANG! The theme hits. It was a golden way to start the show. I’ve seen about 150 episodes out of the 280.

@zardcat1111 Haven’t seen much of the original. I am kind of hoping for a ‘cold open’ followed by the theme, then back to the show after ads

@localfive0 said>>> “OMG! I feel like I just walked into a bitch house, there’s so many people complaining. IT’S JUST A THEME SONG!!!!”
When it copes to Hawaii 5-0 its not just a theme song. Not when the original is the undisputed best ever. BTW, I notice you thinks it OK for you to bitch about something so apparently mundane. ITS JUST PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT A THEME SONG!!!!

Weak. Very very weak.
Comment by 955472 — August 13, 2010 @ 10:22 pm
@SG1Mitchell Yeah, the new theme gives me hope this will work out. The theme to a show is what grabs an audience. How do you think they will air the theme? You think their will be a cliffhanger beginning then the intro, or vice versa. Remember by season 5 of the original, there were no cliffhanger beginnings.

Shots were ok but yeah.. you gotta beef up those drums man!! c’mon the original was heavier.

@zardcat1111 We’re lucky it’s not ten notes and out. 30 seconds is ad space these people hate losing nowadays
